Gary The Tow Truck Driver
Gary used to drive a tow truck, but now he doesn't anymore. He got into an altercation[1] and wound up with a car on top of his hand.
What Happened
Gary was patrolling in his unmarked wrecker and discovered a car illegally parked. [ Citation Needed ] He waited 15 minutes to see if the illegally parked car's owner would move it and at the end of that time he hooked up the car to his tow truck.
Upon hearing a tow truck in front of his home, the owner of the illegally parked car exited his home and got into the hooked up vehicle in an attempt to prevent Gary from towing the car. A discussion[2] occurred where the vehicle's owner and Gary came to an agreement: Gary would release the car for "sixty-five bucks."
The car's owner went inside the house to retrieve the "sixty-five bucks" and Gary began to unhook the car from his tow truck. Once the car owner came back outside with the money, he saw that Gary had unhooked the car and quickly jumped in. He started the car and slammed it into reverse attempting to get away from Gary and his wrecker. What the car owner did not know is that his car was still partially hooked to the wrecker and that Gary's hand was in a "pinch point" between the wrecker and the car.
This resulted in the top half of Gary's hand being ripped off. The car driver lost control of the car and reversed it into his front yard, destroying a light pole and ripping off a portion of the car's front bumper.
The Incident
This image shows what is left of the top of Gary's hand:
This is the car that ran him over. The woman's ex boyfriend was driving the car at the time of the incident.
After the incident[3] was over, the responding police officer was asked why there were no arrests. The officer stated that Gary the tow truck driver had no license, no business license, no vendor permit, and the license plates on his truck were also expired. The wrecker was towed and placed in an impound yard.
Gary's Checkered Past
After speaking with the police, it was discovered that Gary has a criminal record that dates back to 1993[4] with many felony charges. Here is a random sampling of some of his previous altercations with the law:
