Kershaw Knives
They aren't the best, they aren't the worst. However, Kershaw Knives are just good work knives that are mid-priced and pretty much make your life easier. If you notice in the picture, there are 2 different "Leek" knives and both of them have broken tips. I tend to abuse that model, but the good part about the Leek is that you can use an angle grinder or a bench grinder and put a new tip on them.
A lot of the Kershaw lineup are assisted open knives. They utilize the "SpeedSafe" system which opens the knife by the use of a "flipper stud." Some models also have a safety that will prevent the knife from opening if they are in your pocket or not being used.
SpeedSafe
Kershaw launched a revolution with SpeedSafe assisted opening. When closed, a torsion bar in the handle creates a bias toward the closed position. When opening, the torsion bar adds to the pressure from your finger and pushes the blade open.[1]
The answer? A new way to open a knife. Kershaw’s SpeedSafe® assisted opening mechanism changed the industry landscape forever. The technology was introduced in 1998 and immediately won accolades from the industry and the public. Although Kershaw later introduced other opening methods, SpeedSafe remains popular and an important part of Kershaw’s identity.[2]
Fidget Toy
Akin to a fidget spinner, a SpeedSafe assisted opening knife is considered a fidget toy. The only difference is that it doesn't spin, a blade snaps open. Because of this, many owners of the knives tend to open and close them in a preoccupied manner. While this may seem like playing around, it does give the user of these knives practice and the muscle memory to become skilled at one handed open and close.
Other manufactures have seized upon this tendency and advertised their knives as such a toy, or even fabricating toys that do not contain a blade.
