This is why you use a "Sweeping T" when you are installing vertical sewer lines (sometimes called a lateral or a "drop") in an area that has Frost Heave.
The original installation had a glued "Y" fitting and then another glued 45 degree fitting. This is not correct and was probably done to save money.
Why does a Sweeping T prevent this sort of damage? Well, it provides less of an area for Frost Heave to grab, push, pull, or torque the pipe. Doing this causes less movement in the installed fixture and prevents damage.
