T-Mobile ®

From blogginpedia
Jump to navigation Jump to search
Before I delve into the real subject matter of this article, I would like to state that at one time I was a customer of T-Mobile ®. And while my opinion is anecdotal, it still needs to be said: T-Mobile ® has the absolute worst service of any of the major providers...and I have tried them all over the years. As far as I am concerned, the people using T-Mobile ® get what they deserve as they already know just how bad the company is.

In a not so stunning knee-jerk, T-Mobile ®[1][2] has taken a move to destroy their own business by installing a few new rules to their Code of Conduct. Customers who are aware of the changes are not going to like them, but the company reasons that the volumes of SPAM complaints on the network are prompting a change in their TOS. However, the wording you read when you actually look into it is far more controlling than needed.

Below, you will find a copy of their "Code of Conduct," but if you want it straight from the horses' mouth, you can click here to download it for yourself.

Essentially, if they don't like you or what you say, they will make you pay a fine.

It's Just A TOS Bro

TmobileTOS.png

Quote.png Its not a law, its a TOS. go to Verizon or whatever if you don't like it. Quote1.png

Cell phone carriers license their spectrum usage from the government and therefore have no legal right to block any lawful speech of American citizens. Additionally, they are garuanteed protection:

Quote.png Commercial operators including television and radio stations, mobile phone companies, etc. acquire protection from interference in the form of FCC spectrum licenses which provide for exclusive use and protection from interference in specific areas.[3] Quote1.png

This also gives them unlimited ability to censor claiming the "hate speech filter" is malfunctioning. An example:

Quote.png Oh, sorry that news article about the Clintons you tried to send to your uncle got censored accidentally, try sending it again. Oh did that one get blocked too? So sorry about that, this filter can be so temperamental sometimes. Quote1.png

So take your freedom-hating TOS and shove it right up your ass.

Non-Compliance Fines

Tmobile2.jpg

Quote.png A complete and specific definition of hate speech is needed but missing. Quote1.png

Beginning January 1, 2024, T-Mobile is instituting three new fees for non-compliant traffic that result in a Severity-0 violation. A Sev-0, (Severity-0) represents the most harmful violation to consumers and is the highest level of escalation with which a carrier will engage with Bandwidth. This applies across all products (SMS or MMS, Short Code, Toll-Free, and 10DLC) that traverse T-Mobile's network.[4][5]

The non-compliance fine(s) (USD) will be assessed for every Sev-0 violation issued as follows:

Tmobilefine.png
  • Tier 1: $2,000, for phishing, smishing,[6] and social engineering. Social Engineering refers to the practice of targeting individuals in a way that manipulates individuals to reveal private information like credit card numbers, or social security numbers.
  • Tier 2: $1,000, for illegal content (included content must be legal in all 50 states and federally) Illegal content includes, but is not limited to, Cannabis, Marijuana, CBD, Illegal Prescriptions, and Solicitation.
  • Tier 3: $500, for all other violations including, but not limited to, SHAFT (see below). Please review the T-Mobile Code of Conduct Section 5.2 for a list of all disallowed content.

That Tier 3 severity violation is the big one. That's where they can make up whatever rule they want and stick it under the umbrella of hate. Additionally, the explanation says "including, but not limited to, SHAFT." Heck, they can just make stuff up at any point.

Words are so arbitrary these days, expect fines for thoughcrimes next.

What is S.H.A.F.T.?

Tmobile3.jpg

Quote.png Some rando can suddenly decide that what you have said is inappropriate content and you are fined $500. This set of unsuitable things will most definately change daily. Quote1.png

S.H.A.F.T. is an acronym that stands for Sex, Hate, Alcohol, Firearms, and Tobacco. It outlines the categories of text messages specifically regulated due to moral and legal issues and is monitored and enforced by the Cellular Telephone Industries Association (CTIA) and the mobile carriers.

The original idea behind S.H.A.F.T. was to protect children from receiving SMS messages from alcohol companies that might spam them with discount deals. There were a few other reasons that involved tobacco and minors and other stuff like that. However, now that we are in clown world and just about everybody is a mental child who thinks they are a dolphin, those pesky categories of "hate" and "sex" can be used to fine anybody for any thing.

2024 Election

Trumptmobile.png

This terms of service change goes into effect on January 1, 2024. While not explicitly for the elections, it just so happens that whatever they shove in there will come in mighty handy.

From section 5.2 of the Code of Conduct:

  • Campaign types are not in compliance with the recommendations of or prohibited by the CTIA Short Code Monitoring Handbook, Version 1.7, or later.[7]
  • Campaign types[8] not in compliance with the recommendations of or prohibited by the CTIA Messaging Principles and Best Practices.

What You Can Do

Normally, I would tell you to just drop T-Mobile ® and find some other cell phone provider. They have garbage service anyways. Sadly, in this day and age, expect all other cell phone providers to follow suit and toss up their own version of this horseshit.

Then there are the people out there saying "Just get a VPN," but we all know just how willing VPN companies are to work with governments. It is only a matter of time for VPNs to continue as an option.
