This article isn't really about Canada. There is enough hate on the internet to take care of Canada without me having to add to it. No, this article is about a small bit of bullshit, perpetrated by Canadian authorities, that I overheard while watching a video.
The Story
I watch "This Off Grid Life" occasionally. The channel centers around 2 young people who are building an off grid cabin on a mountain in the Canadian wilderness. To say they are remote is an understatement. At times, they have to bulldoze their own roads, just so they can get around.
The latest update involves gathering water for the cabin in the dead of winter. They have several ways of obtaining water, but during cold weather, they use a pump to fill an IBC tote from a nearby stream.
Normally, they would drive their pickup truck to the stream and do their business. On days where there is a lot of snow, they use that same pickup truck to plow the road on the way to the stream. They have been doing this for years.
Recently, the couple was told by the Authorities to stop plowing. Yep, that's Canada for you: An authoritarian regime bent on quashing any freedom, self-reliance, and ingenuity.
Reasons?
What could be the reason why the Canadian Minister of Forestry would tell an off-grid couple to stop plowing roads? I am sure they are doing it under the guise of "safety" because that seems to be modus operandi of oppressive governments these days.
The real reason, in my mind, is that the Canadian government does not want self-reliant individuals. For over a decade now, the government has been restricting more and more freedoms that the Canadian people used to take for granted. Canada (and to an extent the rest of the western world) wants a slave class. They want people who are depressed, cowed, and wholly dependant on their rulers.
