This is Robert Earl Hughes. In the late 1950's, he weighed more than 1,000 pounds. During his lifetime, he was considered an anomaly.
Mind you, Robert held the Guinness Book of World Records crown as the world's fattest man for several decades. He was considered a huge outlier of normal human size and weight. The average person just didn't weigh as much as Robert. These days, if you enter your local walmart store, you will see at least 20 people who are, at best, closing in on Robert's massive tonnage.
Robert's Cause
Hughes's extreme weight was attributed to a ruptured thyroid gland, unlike the soda-swilling, cheap snack-eating, fast food-guzzling, lazy slobs of today.
